Heart of a Lion

As part of #HeartOfALion Day on Aug. 22, hundreds of students, staff and faculty crowded into York Lions Stadium to celebrate a new era for the York University Lions, beginning with the official unveiling of a new logo. A sleek and fierce-looking lion head in York’s signature red, it represents a more inclusive, revamped Lions identity.

“This is an exciting time to be a part of the Lion Pride,” explains Jennifer Myers, executive director of Athletics and Recreation at York. “With this new look, everyone can see themselves as part of the pride.”

So what does it mean to be a Lion today? The answer, according to the York community, is to be accepting of everyone, to be courageous and to stand up for what you believe in. It means having the heart of a Lion and being a leader. It’s about more than wearing a logo. It’s about being part of a movement.
